The Duchess of Cremona
The last heir of the Dukes of Milan is an intelligent, resolute and passionate woman: Bianca Maria Visconti. In 1441 in Cremona she married the general Francesco Sforza bringing the city as a dowry. She then became the beloved lady of Cremona. Right in the place of the noble wedding a very rich monastery has been created and equipped with a large church with amazing sixteenth-century decorations. That is San Sigismondo. The marriage of the couple was also the pretext for indissolubly binding the city of Cremona to its traditional dessert: the Torrone. Why? Come to discover that!
In this tour we will retrace the history of the Duchess by digging up her writings and we will shed light on the personality of one of the most intelligent and capable women of her time. We will take also the chance to discover the church of San Sigismondo, a hidden art treasure just 3 km away from the centre of Cremona.
