National Gallery and Farnese Theatre
The tour starts from The Pilotta Palace, this imposing building was built to be the main residence of the Farnese family, the Dukes of Parma and Piacenza. Today it is a unique monumental complex housing the Farnese Theater, the National Gallery, the National Archaeological Museum and the Palatine Library. Starting by the art collections belonging to the Farnese Dukes, the museums have increased their possessions by having astonishing works made by artists such as Leonardo Da Vinci, Parmigiano and Correggio, among the others.
We will visit:
- the National Gallery whose collections range from Romanesque-Gothic period to 19th century art. Do not miss the frescoes by Correggio, the so called "Turkish Slave" by Parmigianino and the Leonardo Da Vinci drawing.
- the Farnese Theatre, a spectacular setting that reminds us the memory of the sumptuous Farnese Dukes court life. It was and still is the most extraordinary theatre architecture of the 17th century.
